Dear Dad,
Checkout this ground breaking study:
Well there’s a concept. Lowering sugar intake decreases risk for the ailments that kill us. It’s not reported in the study, but I’m willing to wager, that limiting sugar intake over any 1,000 day period will provide astonishingly similar results and is a worthwhile step to becoming healthier.
This particular study was what’s called a “natural experiment” where researchers analyzed data “focusing on adults conceived just before and after the 1953 end of wartime sugar rationing in the United Kingdom.”1 During WWII and up until 1953, the amount of sugar a person could buy in the UK was limited to 40g/day. Once the restriction was lifted sugar consumption rose dramatically.
The study found “that children exposed to sugar restrictions during their first 1,000 days, including pregnancy in utero, had up to a 35-per-cent-lower risk of developing Type 2 diabetes and up to 20-per-cent-lower risk of hypertension as adults. Surprisingly to the researchers, in-utero exposure alone was enough to lower risks.”2
It’s not too late to experience the benefits of limiting sugar. Be your own wartime government and impose a self restriction.
With Love,
JSR
