Dear Dad,
A year of writing. 52 weeks of scribbling letters based on various health and wellness principles that I research, think about, and try to practice regularly. For year 2, I’m throwing a change-up…at least for now. I plan to share one small(er) tid-bit I hear, read, or think-up during the week that is meant to inspire, encourage, and/or challenge you to think about healthy living concepts differently.
We’ll see how it goes and I’m sure on occasion I will be provoked to put pen to paper and write a little longer letters or go in depth in certain areas, but to be honest my job of lawyering has required a little more writing as of late which means less writing for fun. But let’s not kid ourselves, most writing is fun.
Anyway.
Happiness increases time to exhaustion
Think about it.
The happier you are doing something the longer it will take you to stop doing it. This is pretty much universally applicable. Ever lose track of time when working on a particularly fascinating problem? Or even when out on a long bike ride?
My challenge to you is to apply this principle to exercise this week. Part of the reason that our population struggles so much with health is that we don’t know how to exercise. Exercise should be fun. If it’s not, you’re doing it wrong. Find an activity that forces you to move your body more than you would otherwise and do it.
Run. Bike. Swim. Lift weights. Walk. Play backyard sports. Roller-skate, make up a game—do anything that makes you move and makes you happy. You will the most sustainable exercise regiment for you and your future health could change because of it.
With Love,
JSR
